Competition · honest look

What already exists, and how we differ.

We are not the first running app. We aim to be the first that treats the athlete's ownership as a product decision, the coaching relationship as a chapter-based contract, and the data as something that leaves with you.

Athlete floor

Runalyze ~€2.50 · Intervals.icu donation. Cheap-or-free end of the market.

Athlete mid

Garmin Connect+ €7 · Strava €12 · Nolio €7-9. The "pays a subscription without thinking" band.

Athlete ceiling

TrainingPeaks ~€18 / mo. Only serious athletes pay this, usually because their coach made them.

Our read. The natural slot for Kimbia is €4 / mo - undercuts every commercial tool, sits above "donate what you want", and reads as a friendly contribution rather than another €12 subscription. Coaches get a free tier up to 5 athletes, then pay €12 per block of 5 extra.

Notes

Kimbia

What we promise (see the landing commitments list).

Nolio

Plan shows min-max pace (ugly - see tmp/nolio.png). We replace with ± target. Coach workflow is strong; athlete UI and data export are weak.

TrainingPeaks

Per-interval analysis exists but isn't opinionated. Export works but the ecosystem is a closed garden. Most expensive in the space.

Strava

Network effects, great social. Coaching is thin. Free tier gutted repeatedly. Price hikes are a running complaint.

Garmin Connect

Free with the hardware. Plan-builder clumsy. No coaching chapters. Connect+ launched 2025 for AI features - lukewarm reception. Full-resolution data lives here natively - we sync from it.

Final Surge

Strong coach tooling, US-leaning. UX shows its age. Closest to our coach-charged pattern.

Runalyze

Open, self-hostable, analytical. Cheapest commercial option. Not coaching-first. Different audience we can complement.

Intervals.icu

Donation-supported (we borrow that instinct). Strong analytics, single-person tool. Proves donation model can work for running/cycling.

Our wedges

/ wedge

Coaching as chapters, not vendor lock-in.

The coach joins for a window of time. You keep the data. They keep read-only of their chapter. Nobody starts from scratch next season.

/ wedge

Per-segment verdict, opinionated.

We don't just show splits. We tell you rep-by-rep: on target, too fast, HR drifted. That insight is the product.

/ wedge

Atproto identity.

One account that moves. We're the first training app that treats this as a promise, not a theoretical feature.
